Google is replacing Gemini Gems with skills

Google's Gemini help page describes the move from Gems to skills for personal accounts, starting in November 2026. Press coverage reported more specific dates (Gems becoming read-only in mid-November and removed in mid-December). We have not confirmed those exact dates on a Google page, so treat them as reported, not official.

What it means for you

• Copy the instructions out of any Gem you rely on now, so you can recreate them as a skill.
• A saved prompt or agent template from this site works anywhere; it does not depend on Gems.
• Workspace (work or school) accounts may follow a different schedule. Ask your admin.

What we did

We reworded our Gemini pages so they say "Gems or skills" and point to Google's help page for the current status.
