Perplexity points developers to its Agent API

Perplexity's documentation now presents an Agent API. A Perplexity staff member said the older Sonar chat-completions interface is being retired, and gave a date in September 2026. Perplexity's own guide is softer and does not state a shutdown date, so we label this reported, not confirmed.

What it means for you

• If your bot calls the Sonar chat-completions endpoint, read Perplexity's migration notes now and plan a switch.
• Our Perplexity bot starter uses the older style and says to check Perplexity's docs for the current status.
• Do not rely on any date until Perplexity publishes one on an official page.

What we did

We softened the wording in our Perplexity templates so they do not promise either behavior.
